About Louisa

I am currently a senior Elementary Education student at Claflin University and will be completing my student teaching in the spring semester of 2017. I have recently moved to Charleston, South Carolina, and reside in the downtown area. Prior to pursing my bachelors degree, I received an Associates of Arts from the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Beaufort, South Carolina.

I am a lover of learning and teaching. I specialize in English, Reading, Vocabulary, and Science. Throughout my college experience, I have had many opportunities to tutor and mentor students. At Claflin University I participated in a program, the National Professional Development, in which I tutored 2nd-6th grade ESOL/ELL students in the Orangeburg County School District. In addition to working in the public school setting, I spent the last two summers tutoring a six year old child with autism, as well as working with a pair of four year old twins. Tutoring outside of the school setting allowed me to work with a wider age range and experience a diverse learning environment. Lastly, I am familiar with American Sign Language, and am able to work with students that are deaf or hard of hearing.

I welcome all students. Please do not hesitate to contact me!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
