Thanks for checking out my profile. I'm currently a special education math teacher at a BCSD high school. I've been teaching for seven years now and love every second of it. I've tutored since graduate school and specialize in helping elementary students with their struggles in math. I've tutored both privately and at learning centers and have many resources to help students understand difficult concepts. I've found developing positive relationships with my students can go a long way in making progress towards student goals. I've worked with two students for four years now and continue to do so over Skype after having moved to the area this summer.
I received my Bachelors in Economics from Duke University in 2003 and was a minor in creative writing. I received my Master's in Special Education in 2010 from The George Washington University. I take pride in my ability to make learning math active and engaging so the student is involved in the lesson and engaged throughout the session.
A little about me: I enjoy outdoor adventuring such as kayaking, rafting, hiking and canyoning. Before I became a teacher in 2010, I was a comedy writer and a campaign manager so I have a variety of experiences to draw upon.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have my Master's in Elementary Education from The George Washington University. I've tutored elementary school students for the last six years in reading, writing and math. I truly enjoy working with developing learners and seeing their confidence grow. I have accumulated many resources which I can use to help elementary learners.
I've taught students with learning disabilities, autism, and intellectual disabilities for the last six years. I've also tutored primarily students with learning disabilities. I use a variety of strategies to assist students with special needs understand concepts and improve their reading ability.
I've taught a high school class the last three years solely to keep special education students organized with their studies. We worked on time management, prioritizing, and using calendars to plan ahead on projects and papers. Although these methods to not directly teach content, they are essential for the high school learner to keep up with their studies and not get behind.
