University of South Carolina (Early Childhood Ed)
Charleston Southern University (MEd)
I have been a teacher of math for over thirty years. My undergraduate degree was in early childhood education but spent my first 20 years teaching middle school mathematics. My masters degree is in preadolescent education specializing in math. Because of this I have a great understanding of the connections between concepts.
Over my career I have also tutored, taught graduate courses and worked as a mathematics specialist for the state. There is never a time that I don't find something new about mathematics or how people learn math.
My understanding among and between grades allows me to teach for these connections so that students understand concepts not just procedures.
My last four years I have been a mathematics consultant working with teachers in understanding concepts in common core. Part if my job also was to provide common core demonstration lessons in grades k-8.
I have a keen understanding of mathematical concepts and fluencies expected at each grade level. I have a wealth of strategies to help facilitate efficiency and fluency of essential computations.

I have worked as a mathematics consultant for the last 7 years. The four years, all of my work has focused on implementing common core mathematics concepts in grades k-8. Much of this has been providing content knowledge to teachers to help in the understanding and the development of lessons. I have also done demonstration lessons in all 9 grade levels.
My undergraduate degree was in Early Childhood Education. Upon graduation, I began teaching math in grades 6-8 for the next twenty years. I taught grades 5-7 for the remaining years of teaching. When I began consulting, I returned to the primary and elementary levels in math. All of these combined experiences have helped me to focus not only on specific grade levels but to see the needed connections between concepts essential for student understanding.
I have a master's degree in Pre-Adolescent Education with a Specialization in Math. I am also Nationally Board Certified in Math.
I am qualified in Pre-Algebra by WyzAnt. In addition, I am highly qualified by SC for gifted education and Nationally Board Certified in PreAdolescent Mathematics.
