About Brent

I started tutoring in high school and have been doing it sporadically for about ten years now. Every child learns differently and I try to find a common interest with him or her and base part of my teaching around that interest. When I was younger I was very hyperactive and it was very hard for me to stay focused and listen to my teachers in class. As I grew older, I learned different techniques to stay on task and actually enjoy learning. I am a graduate of law school, passed the bar, and also received my master's of law at the Charleston School of Law. I have seven nephews and two nieces whom I have been tutoring on and off since they were born. I enjoy seeing someone learn something they never thought they could. I love seeing the expression on their faces when the material just "clicks" and they understand it.

I haven't had much time off from reading and writing because of my education. Reading and writing are two of the biggest components of being an attorney. I would bask in the opportunity to be able to help someone read something different.

When I was in high school, I tutored about 10 hours a week to underprivileged students. I have also been babysitting and tutoring family members and friends my entire life.

I love to see someone accomplish their goals. I went to school for about twenty years and know how dry, boring, and frustrating some subjects can be. Sometimes it is the material and sometimes it is the teacher. I try to make learning fun and know everybody learns material differently. One student's style of learning can be completely diverse from his classmate's. This can make it hard to absorb everything being taught in class. For the next few months, I am studying to take another bar exam while taking time off from work. I would love to help and tutor anyone who is interested in accomplishing their goals. Be well.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
