About Dorothea

I have studied English at two prestigious universities, receiving Magna Cum Laude marks at both. My major was creative writing, meaning I have a thorough knowledge of grammar, an extensive vocabulary, and a clear, strong writing style when it comes to articulation. Additionally, I have a background in literature -- poetry and prose, fiction and non-fiction, all territories. I have taught in many environments, including tutoring one on one, and teaching group classes. I have adopted a very patient, thorough approach. Students often have found me to be their favorite teacher/tutor because I am very friendly yet highly productive. Furthermore, I have experienced English as a second language students at low and high levels, so I am very good with communication, even with students who barely speak English. Lastly, I have experience with journalism and am a published poet. So I would be an ideal candidate for helping a student in all areas of English, including English as a second language. My philosophy is that in education, curiosity is the most valuable trait a tutor can inspire. Curiosity engages the student and keeps the material fresh and enjoyable, but it is also functional because the students will remember more if they are genuinely curious. Memorization comes naturally, as opposed to rigidly. Therefore I try to inspire the student to understand the value of what he or she is learning. Again, that is why many students have found me to be a favorite. I have studied English at two prestigious universities, receiving Magna Cum Laude marks at both. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
