About Summer

Hello everyone!

My name is Summer and I appreciate you taking a look at my profile. Please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions at all. I hope I cover everything and I look forward to hearing from you.

My philosophy: A great teacher can make learning fun and exciting, even for the older students. People learn more when their attitude is positive and their minds are clear from stress and outside issues. As a tutor and future educator, I pride myself on making the most out of my time with a student. I also pride myself on being reasonable and understanding.

My current classroom parents will tell you that I can make a student who hates school find their love in school, a student who didn't have confidence thrive, and a student who has behavioral issues understand how to control their issues and excel in social and academic aspects of their life.

As a mom, I understand that a child's education cannot be placed in the hands of just anyone. Because of this, I always like to do a phone or in person meeting with my future students and/or parents, at no charge of course. It's important that if you are paying to learn, you feel comfortable and that we have a good fit.

I also understand that learning cannot be done within a short time with a student and myself. That it will take extra work on both ends outside of our tutoring time. That is why I prepare properly. I spend time preparing lesson plans and homework for the students to work on at home. By doing this, it's easy to see the progress being made and there is no wasted time that I'm paid for where the student works a sheet of problems and I am left to only watch. Instead, our time is spent learning and reviewing.

A little about myself: I graduated from CSU in 2016 and am hoping to go back to get my Masters Degree. I volunteer with the YMCA year round and coach my son as well as teams my son is not a part of because of my love of children. I do everything I can to represent myself, my son, my family name in a positive light.

I served six years in the military as a Navy Corpsman. I understand how the ASVAB works and how recruiters work as well. I respect everyone in uniform and those who are working especially hard to pass the ASVAB and get into the military.

I have a year of teaching completed and tons of teaching experience at local elementary schools as a student teacher/sub and even more tutoring experience. I also possess many skills and tricks to make material stick for the student. If you would like references, please email me and I will be sure to supply you with names and numbers.

I look forward to working with you!

Sincerely,
Summer

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

My brother has ADHD and I helped him growing up with concentrating and doing his homework. Also, several kids in my practicum class have either ADD or ADHD. Also, we had to learn about it for medical training in the military.

Cooking

I have cooked for my family and friend with and without recipes. I was on bed rest during my pregnancy and learned tons from the Food Network channel. I can cook anything from Mac N'Cheese to apple stuffed pork chops. I do appetizers, entres, and desserts. I also have cooked cupcakes for birthday parties, bridal showers and baby showers.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently enrolled at at a university for Elementary Education. I have just hit the halfway point for my major. I have completed over 50 hours of classroom training and have even been offered a substitute teaching job, which I have turned down to do tutoring instead. The reason is that tutoring allows me to help those in need and create my own lesson plans where as substituting only allows me to hand out what has already been decided.

Elementary Math

I teach elementary math currently. Come up with lesson plans, understand the material, create quizzes and test, and I have tons of hands on manipulatives.

Football

Besides watching football every season, NFL and NCAA, I have coached several players with one on one conditioning. I have taught how to explode off the line, shift directions quicker and stop and go on a dime. I have also taught drills focusing on hand-eye and feet coordination. I was invited to play football for my high school after playing in powder puff; I stuck with softball, volleyball and basketball.

Public Speaking

I am minoring in communication. I have spoken to crowds as small as 6 and as large as 500. I have spoken to news stations, newspapers, and lead lessons to several classes. I am a natural with public speaking.

Study Skills

I have been diagnosed with OCD due to my organizational skills, especially with my classroom work. I have helped several students and classmates organize their work and notes which helps them know what to study. I also have helped several organize their study center/station and their time. While in the military, I organized and lead several study groups.

Theater

I have helped organize a theatre program while in high school. I have tons of public speaking experience and I am a minor in communications, theatre emphasis. I have participated in one play and several small group theatre.
