About Christina

Teaching is a career that initially found me on Hilton Head and afforded me a way to utilize my love and appreciation of learning, my outgoing and enthusiastic nature, and my inability to be in any profession where one is confined to a desk. During my 20 years at Hilton Head Island High School, I have achieved certification to teach Advanced Placement in both Language and Literature, was trained in the International Baccalaureate program during the first year of its inception, initiated and moderated our Spanish Chapter of the National Honor Society, and was elected as department chair of the World Language Department in my third year with the school. I have been successful teaching Spanish levels I through Spanish VI, built strong relationships with my students that continue to flourish well after graduation, proactively organized student trips to Spain and inspired many students to pursue Spanish majors in college.

My teaching style is very student-oriented and doesn't begin or end in a text book. I utilize Spanish culture, art and film in my teaching as well as integrate technology, media and games in my lesson plans. I offer private one-on-one tutoring for students and adults at any level as well as full AP/IB Exam prep. If you’re a student needing to pass Spanish I - IV to get into college, if you need to cram for a Spanish AP exam, if you want to brush up on Spanish for a business trip, if you’re tired of speaking broken Spanglish on vacations, or if you just always wanted to learn the language, I'd be happy to help you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Spanish

I am a native Colombian Speaker with over 20 years of high school teaching experience. I have developed, planned, and taught a rigorous curriculum for all levels of Spanish including Spanish I - IV, AP and IB. I have maintained a record high passing rate on all AP and IB exams and can craft differentiated lesson plans to meet the needs of all students. I also have extensive experience in private tutoring to students and adults at all levels.
