My passion is working with students who are struggling readers. I have taught K-12 for 16 years. I worked in higher education for 3 1/2 years as an Academic Advisor. I work with several students who are dyslexic and I have a child that has dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia. I love the one-on-one tutoring because it allows me to become more familiar with my student and it helps me focus on what is needed for my student to be successful. I currently use the Barton Reading and Spelling System to help my students in reading.
I have training and experience in several leadership roles and methods. I am skilled in addressing student needs, working and ensuring students will thrive and develop in an adaptable educational atmosphere. I am skilled with working with students who have reading disabilities at different levels. I possess interpersonal and communication skills to develop an excellent rapport with all members of the educational community.
Over my years of teaching and administration career I and very particular about the correct English format. I was one of the proofreaders for the semester brochure for Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College. I also was the co-worker everyone sent me their documentation for me to review and make corrections.
I have a child who has dyslexia and I have been tutoring students with dyslexia for the past 3 years with the use of Barton Reading and Spelling System. I have taught K-12 students and in my classes I have had students with dyslexia, autism and Asperger's. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
