About Linda

I am a retired teacher and guidance counselor from the Georgia School System in Tifton, GA. I taught all subjects at the middle school level. I also taught middle school students who received remedial services in math and science through the Title 1 Program. I also worked with middle school students to prepare them for the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. As a counselor, I worked with students in the middle school and at the 9th grade school. I also taught math at the Tift County Alternative School. These were students who had disciplinary issues in the regular school environment. I did this for 10 years. Since moving to Anderson, I have taught Ethics, Sociology, Psychology, Accounting, Bookkeeping, Basic Math, Fundamentals of Math, and Principles of Math.

I enjoy working with students at all levels. My experience with remedial students and the students at the alternative school has taught me patience and to celebrate small victories. I have tutored students with disabilities as well. Often time, students, at the middle school level, have not experienced success in their classes, especially math, and have given up. I believe that all students can be successful. Often times, it takes a lot of hard work, on the part of the student and the tutor, but it pays off in the end.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I was a certified middle school teacher for 6 years. We taught every subject on a rotational basis. I have also been a tutor in all subjects for students in grades up to 9th. I have also been employed as a remedial math and english teacher for students in grades 5-8.

SAT Math

I have taught math at all levels, including college, for more than 20 years. I was a middle school math teacher, a remedial math teacher, and in college, I taught the Principles and Fundamentals classes.

Sewing

I am an experienced quilter; so, accuracy is important. I have made home decorations such as pillows, curtains, cushions for outdoor furniture. When my daughter was younger (up to middle school age), I made tops, shorts, pants, and dresses. I enjoy sewing and I also do a lot of hand sewing - cross stitching, embroidery, hand quilting. I also taught my daughter how to do home and machine sewing.

Sociology

I have a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling. As a high school counselor, I interacted with students and parents using the skills taught to me in my college classes while earning my Masters Degree. I have taught Sociology, Psychology and Abnormal Psychology at the college level. I have also tutored college students using the textbook and associated on-line lessons in all of these subjects.

Study Skills

As a middle school certified teacher, study skills were an integral part of each subject that I taught. I also taught remedial students in math and reading. Teaching them how to study for taking tests was part of our curriculum. Teaching them how to take notes, to study the subject material in preparation for a test are two parts of what makes a study successful.
