About Lisa

I have been teaching for the last 30 years in one capacity or another. I began my teaching as a graduate student at Clemson University; teaching undergraduate nutrition courses. I then taught Pediatric Medical residences at MCG while working as a Neonatal Dietitian. I then decided to stay home when my first child was born and ended up homeschooling 4 children for many years. I then taught part-time at the private school my children were attending and eventually full-time. I taught mostly math, however, I also taught science, English and art as needed.

Most recently, I taught at the Ruth Patrick Science Center. I have decided I'd like to plan my own teaching time and am interested in trying out this opportunity to tutor. I love teaching and I love watching children learn and believe in themselves! I've spent time with many different students with many different learning styles and I believe I am quite capable of helping instill the love of learning into each child I meet!

Math is probably my favorite subject and have taught it for many years in middle school. I have helped many student learn to love math; once we fill in the areas that they may have missed along the way!

I have spent all my life reading in one way or another and feel that I could help anyone with this area. I also have helped children with different reading abilities and am able to understand that just because we don't all read at the same pace or level doesn't necessarily indicate intelligence. Many just take a little longer to get there and, along the way, actually may learn more work ethic than others!

I have aught every subject at least 4 times for every grade with my children, with additional teaching experience in the school setting as well.

I love children and watching them learn! I believe I can instill a love for learning in children that they may not always get in the classroom setting.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
