Sometimes you need a little sympathetic, one-on-one help to unleash your potential. I would be delighted to help you. I have a wide educational background, with multiple degrees from top universities, a brand-new CELTA, plus teaching experience in many countries - most recently, in the Galapagos Islands! I've taught in China, the Middle East, Canada, and Europe. My primary interest is tutoring business subjects taught in English, and I've taught a range of subjects, from business law to advertising to management. I speak with a slight British accent but can help you speak with an American accent if that is your preference. I can also help you to improve your academic writing, business communication, and resume/application writing skills.
I have a professional office for conducting tutoring, where you can study in peace with resources at hand when you need them, or I can tutor in your preferred location (e.g., Aiken County Library).
Why might you want to work with me? Great credentials: PhD, MBA, EdM, and CELTA - plus experience, patience, and empathy. I understand the issues faced by students moving from one culture to another, from one language of instruction to another. You will receive not only subject-matter information, but a personalized program of assistance in achieving your goals.
I can also help established clients with other aspects of college education: test preparation, both computer-based and classroom; clarifying the American approach to academic honesty (a critical area that foreign students in particular need to understand thoroughly); and applying to graduate school. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an MBA from an AACSB-accredited university and a PhD in business from an accredited Canadian university. I have also operated a DBA of my own and successfully taught business subjects in the USA, Canada, China, and Europe. I have experience teaching business subjects to students who are not native speakers of English.
