Sorry I took so long to provide a review. I want to thank you Nancy for coming into our lives. I prayed a long time for a person like you. My son likes you a lot. He tells me that you care and that your not just in it for the money. My son has had many tutor's, I know by far you are the best one. He is coming along slowly as far as motivation, but my mom and I do see a difference. Talking to my son is sometimes hard because he keeps things bottled up. Thank god he's still hanging in there and believe me that means a lot. My son seems be studying and he seems to care about what he is learning. I call my son on the daily basis to ask him how's everything. He usually says it's ok, but now he says I have to learn my time tables. I believe my son likes you so much, he doesn't want to disappoint you. I went out to purchase the book Hunger Games so I could read along and help my son with his reading comprehension. Thank you so much for caring and understanding Nancy and going that extra mile. I know God made me choose you for a reason!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a guidance counselor for over 18 years and have worked with students who have ADD/ADHD. I have worked with families and assisted them in writing 504's for the school and teachers to follow. I have learned through experience that one of the best things a parent can do is to work on organization and a systematic approach to the problem areas. My most proud moment of working with an ADD student was helping a junior in high school pass her math HSAP after previously failing it.
I taught Algebra I for several years at Schofield Middle School in Aiken, SC where I was also the math department head. I was also Aiken County's math coordinator. I have over 30 years of experience in education.
I earned my Bachelor's Degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida in Elementary Education. I am currently certified to teach Elementary Education in South Carolina. I have tutored elementary aged students in all curriculum areas.
I have taught math and Algebra for several years. I love Geometry and have taught Geometry to GED students. I currently teach Geometry to adults who are trying to get their GED.
One of my favorite psychologists is John Rosemond. He is the author of ENDING THE HOMEWORK HASSLE. I used his book as a reference for parents when I was a middle school guidance counselor. I have done private tutoring for over 30 years and I have learned that often times the student needs to be organized and learn how to study. Last year I was contacted by a family to help their son with study skills because he was failing algebra and science. We organized notebooks so all subject notebooks were organized the same way. We worked on procedures as to where to place graded work the teacher returned to the student, and where to place work that needed to be turned in. We worked on writing down all homework assignments. After working with this young man for 9 weeks, he was passing all of his classes. This is just one example of what I do.
