I'm Becky! I have been teaching for 25 years. I'm someone who loves learning, so I am always improving my skills and refining my practice. I have a Bachelors of Science from Rhode Island College in both elementary education and special education. I also earned a Masters of Ed in Special Education from Northcentral University five years ago. I also recently acquired a certificate from Roger Williams University in Blended and Personalized Learning Instructional Coaches Program. I'm passionate about helping students receive the support that is unique to them, which has led me always to be learning and improving through programs such as Fuse RI from Highlander Institute in Providence. I coach other teachers, have created an educational website for teachers to learn at their own pace, and provide professional development for both general and special educators.
My long career as a teacher and tutor has focused on reaching students who may struggle or need personalized learning. I am patient, able to engage resistant students, even those who may have had negative school experiences. I seek to find unique ways to meet each student's needs and foster a desire to learn. I have experience with gifted students who wish to get ahead, adapting materials for those who may need a different presentation, and including technology in meaningful ways when appropriate to meet students all over the learning continuum.
My teaching and tutoring experience has included students with emotional and behavioral challenges, resource students, and gifted students. I enjoy tutoring because I love seeing students gain confidence, grow as learners, and often change their perspectives on themselves as learners. I am the proud mother of two successful sons with ADHD.
In addition to my teaching and tutoring experience, I have experience as an online ESL teacher, an educational consultant for a Tech Access company, website design, and am Google Certified Educator, Level II.
I'd be happy to have a free initial consultation discussion to determine what students need. I'm willing to travel in the Rhode Island and eastern Connecticut area and only require a one-hour cancellation notice. I look forward to working as a team to get students on a path to success. Please feel free to message me with questions or schedule a lesson.

Common Core

I have taught the common core since it was put into effect. Under those requirements the teacher evaluations system has been implemented as well, in which I have received only ratings of "Highly Effective".

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education and a Masters of Ed in Special education. I'm rated as Highly Effective through the RI Educator Evaluation system. I taught third-grade for eight years.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I strongly believe that all students can be successful in math but sometimes it is the adults who need to find the supports to help them. I believe in using a multi-sensory approach for students that begins with visuals and hands-on strategies to ensure clear understanding of concepts.
Homeschool,

Homeschool

I have vast experience in teaching students with differentiated approaches so that pacing can be individualized, targeted based on data, and project-based. My experience in personalized learning is an ideal match for homeschooled students who benefit from maximizing their time through meaningful activities geared towards their interests.
Phonics,

Phonics

I have worked with RTI teams with many beginning readers in k-2 due to my special education background. My expertise with phonics is with multi-sensory approaches to support struggling readers.
Reading,

Reading

I have worked and had success with readers whose reading struggles had severely impacted their self-confidence and behavior. Helping students to become kids who love to read and view themselves as readers is very important to me. I continue to keep my skills sharp; I have just completed (Juy 2019) a graduate course in Teaching Reading to Struggling Readers from Columbia University.
