I'm a freelance writer, amateur novelist and painter, and soon to be Buddhist priest with over twelve years of teaching experience. I've taught writing and composition on the college level, vocational, GED, SAT prep and tutored nursing assistants at a homeless shelter and privately. I've also been a Ramp trainer and operations supervisor for a Delta Airlines contractor. I like to read, play guitar, watch awful B-movies and to be useful where I can. I like to be a partner in someone's learning, not the expert who does all the talking.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to experience with GED, SAT and ASVAB prep, I have also taught job training and job skills workshops, taught basic finances and resume writing workshops, and assisted students with college applications and with financial aid. My experience with job skills and job readiness includes both basic skills and industry specific, such as airport ramp operations, nursing assistant, printing and culinary.
I have ten years experience with preparing GED graduates for college through helping them with applications, offering or referring them to others for financial aid information, as well as enrolling them in and tutoring them while in college prep courses as needed. I have also maintained a relationship with colleagues who can also offer assistance at every level of college preparation. I have also informally assisted college students with course selection, and provided vocational students courses and workshops in basic finances and what to expect as incoming college students.
I have experience in working with pre-literate adults and youth, and have used such tools as Adult Basic Education curriculum, and such phonics systems as Wilson Reading and Orton-Gillingham Multi-Sensory. My primary experience has been working one-one with students struggling to read.
