Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

As a special education teacher in a public high school, I taught in a "self-contained" setting, which meant that I was charged with teaching to students exclusively with IEPs. Many of these students were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. Additionally, my certification with the Board of Education lists my areas as Mild to Moderate, which further covers the ADD/ADHD spectrum. Additionally, in order to attain my Masters Degree in Special Education, my graduate curriculum included strategies on dealing with and teaching to those students with ADD/ADHD.

Baseball

I have played baseball virtually all my life (since I was 5), which included stints in a semi-professional league. I presently still play in a men's wooden bat league that also features former major league and minor league ballplayers throughout the league. I have worked with youth on their baseball skills, and worked one-on-one with emerging players, on hitting and fielding skills.

Dyslexia

As a special education teacher in a public school, I encountered and worked one-on-one with students who had Dyslexia. I would help them break down the words, sentences and/or phrases, while providing strategies to overcome any issues. Dyslexia was also a part of my Masters program in Special Education, when I acquired additional knowledge and skills in working with those who have dyslexia. Thank you for your time.

English

I am a certified public school teacher and published writer/author, adept at teaching and working one-on-one with students in all areas of English, including reading, writing, grammar, reading comprehension and analysis, author intent, paragraph structure, story structure, character analysis, senior project papers and research, amongst other areas.

Special Needs

I hold a Masters Degree in Special Education (mild to moderate) and I am a certified Public School Teacher, in the areas of Secondary Special Education and Elementary Education. I have worked for the past five years in the special education capacity, which included self-contained settings.

Study Skills

As a Public High School Special Education teacher, one of my classes that I oversaw and taught, was "Organizational Skills". In this class, I instructed my students on proper study skills, study habits, prioritization of subjects and life, as well as how to stay organized and its importance. This often included working one-on-one with students. Additionally, in order to attain my Double Masters Degree in Special Education and Elementary Education, my graduate curriculum included strategies on teaching study skills to elementary level students as well those with special needs.

Theater

I have a degree from The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, in New York City. Additionally, I have an array of stage and select film (local TV commercials and industrials; stand-in) credits. I have also written stage and screenplays.
