Johnson and Wales University Providence (Biology)
Hi, my name is Samantha B. I'm currently a student at Johnson and Wales University in the biology program. I spent a lot of my high school career tutoring at a middle school in a town north of Boston, helping my younger sister do her homework, babysitting kids who needed help with homework, and coaching youth cheerleading. I was also an honors student for my entire high school career. I was accepted into all seven colleges and universities I applied to. I got a 1900 on my SAT and a 29 on my ACT, both with writing. The courses I have taken include algebra I and II, geometry, accelerated pre calculus, AP calculus, AP U.S. history, AP statistics, AP english literature, AP physics, biology, chemistry, anatomy, AP psychology, and sociology to name a few. I'm currently taking biology, pre calculus (again), and honors english composition. I am a part of Johnson and Wales University's Honors Program based on my high school GPA of a 3.7 and my standardized test scores. I love tutoring because I love working with kids, as I have an easy time relating to their struggles in school. I also find that tutoring kids helps me learn more as well.
My entire life I have excelled in math, but I really fell in love with the subject my sophomore year Algebra II class. My teacher was really hard on me and got me to push myself mentally. I ended up with a 102% in her class that year. Ever since then I have pushed myself in mathematics more than any other subject. Because of this, I'm more than qualified to tutor mathematics, especially in Algebra. I also scored a 720 on my math section on the SAT and received a very high overall score of a 29 on my ACT.
Since I am furthering my education in science currently, it is obvious that I have passion for science. Although I am focusing on biology right now, I have experience in many science areas ranging from chemistry to physics to anatomy. I have also studied AP psychology, which some consider a science.
I hope that as a student, or parent of a student, you find that I would be a good fit as a tutor and that I can be of help in your search for a better academic understanding. Thanks for reading! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
