About Alexandra

Hi there! My name is Alex and I just graduated Yale May 2016 and will be pursuing a master's degree in elementary education. Education is the key to success but when you don't understand something, it can be frustrating and disheartening. That is why I want to help you understand the material and concepts you are struggling with and give you the skills and confidence to move forward with your studies. Whether it's solving algebraic expressions, learning to take a photo or studying for the SAT, my goal is for you to be more confident and prepared than when we met!

Math is my passion to tutor, but I can help you with math, english, art, or test prep. I graduated with a degree in art and a concentration in photography but at Yale studied everything from calculus to astronomy to literature so I am well-versed in many different subjects.

My senior year of college I tutored two fourth-graders in mathematics as a volunteer. It was one of the most rewarding experiences I've had and it made a big impact. My students gained skills and confidence and I gave them a position association with math. This experience cemented my desire to be an educator and showed me the importance of a good tutor! That said, I would be just as at home tutoring an elementary schooler or a college student.

I am passionate about teaching and learning and would love to help you on you or your child on the journey!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

I applied to 12 colleges and thus had many many applications. In addition to writing the applications, the college hunt includes finding the colleges that are right for you, which involves some soul-searching. I absolutely loved this process and would love to help someone on their college journey.

Drawing

I was an art major at Yale and took their Basic Drawing class. I currently do ink and watercolor drawings.

Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary education is what I wish to devote my life to. I will be starting a MAT in Elementary Education this fall. My senior year of college, I worked at an elementary school tutoring two 4th graders. We worked on math mostly, but as a tutor I also served as a mentor and their sounding board for questions about the world. I am very comfortable with this age group and wish to continue tutoring elementary schoolers.

Logic

I took First-Order Logic at Yale University and have strong mathematical and deductive skills.

Photography

I was an art major at Yale with a concentration in photography. I did a photography show for my senior thesis.

Praxis

I just graduated from Yale university and am very familiar with standardized tests. I just took the Praxis Multiple Subject Exam for Elementary Education and received top scores.

Study Skills

I just graduated from Yale University after graduating as valedictorian from my high school. The key to my success in high school was completely study skills. I mastered an organizational system and planned the studying I needed to do in advance of the test day. I would love to share these skills with another student and help them create a system of notebooks and folders, a planner, and a study schedule, just like I have. It worked for me.
