About Meg

Teaching is a major component of my job. While I enjoy working with 3-5 year olds, it provides little opportunity to utilize my STEM background. I enjoy tutoring and believe that no student should develop a fear of math or science. The material should be taught in a way that is engaging, fun, and student-centered.

I am currently working as an AmeriCorps member at the Providence Children's Museum. I specialize in educational outreach and enrichment with a focus on 3-5 year olds enrolled in the Head Start/Children's Friend program.

I was enrolled in the FSU Teach program while in school. The program trains STEM majors to teach science and mathematics to elementary, middle, and high school students. I received A's in the program and highly enjoyed my time teaching. I also received an A in a historical debate class. The course had us read Roman works of literature and debate a variety of historical events from the perspective of Roman citizens.

I compiled astronomy lessons for students with visual impairments (6-8th grade) during my sophomore year at the University of Washington. I presented my project at the Undergraduate Research Symposium.

I have guest lectured for introductory geology, speaking to a group of 400-500 students.

I am a geologist by training and have completed my university's field camp, which was stationed in New Mexico. I would be delighted to help any undergraduates prepare for their field camps, whether it involve physical preparation, gear selection, or tips on efficient mapping.

I have completed math up through Calculus 2 and have taught math to elementary and middle school students in a classroom setting.

I have a bachelor of science in geology and am highly experienced in teaching.

I love teaching and I love learning. I believe that STEM should be engaging and rewarding for students. All of my lessons have been student-centered, meaning that they help direct a student's line of thought towards solving the problem themselves rather than simply telling the student the answer. This will help you develop skills to tackle new and difficult problems in the future with confidence.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
