About Hope

I am currently a junior at Providence College in Providence, RI. I am an elementary and special education major. Through my major I work with students on a weekly basis in my student teaching experiences. My classes also guide me in the appropriate ways to teach children material that is covered in schools by the Common Core. I also previously worked in an after school program, helping students complete their homework. I spend my whole summer with kids as a camp director. I believe tutoring is more closely aligned with teaching and would love to help students while I am home for my summer break.
I have learned fun approaches to learning different topics that make learning fun and more accessible to all children. I believe that children should always enjoy going to school and learning, however, challenging material can get in the way of that. As a tutor I would work to help a child understand the concept that they were struggling with by helping them understand the reasoning behind why things work the way they do.

I have taken three semesters of elementary math classes which has helped me create a strong basis for the subjects that are covered in grades 1-8. As well as a student teaching position this past semester teaching math in a fourth grade classroom, once per week.
In my own experience I have taken lots of math classes, up to and including college precalculus. I have always had a passion for mathematics and find teaching math concepts to be fun and rewarding.

I have an extremely flexible schedule, and I would love to help as many students as I can. I understand how challenging the subjects can be especially when they are not taught in the correct manor. I would like to help all students have the ability to succeed and understand the content, to allow them to love going to school.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am an elementary and special education major at Providence College. Through the completion of many major related courses I have established a deep understanding of all of the elementary topics. I have already passed the elementary math and the elementary science tests, which shows that I am fluent in both those topics. This fluency can be seen throughout all of the elementary topics as I have learned to help students reach their highest potential through my numerous classes. Furthermore, I have learned how to help students who have disabilities achieve to their highest potential by learning strategies for information presentation that could be helpful for tutoring.
In terms of experience, I have not only taught multiple classes on my own at the fourth grade level, but I have also helped in an after school homework club at the first grade level. I have observed in numerous classes at all different levels from kindergarten to sixth grade. I understand the appropriate ways to help children learn and succeed. Also, within the next two years I will be a certified elementary teacher, which helps to show that I have a strong basis already for the content that is covered throughout all grades.
