About Dave

Hi!

My name is Dave, and I'm excited to help you learn about a real passion of mine-- business. I am a full-time, licensed Business Teacher at a high school in central Massachusetts, and recently completed a Masters in Education.

I'm a Babson graduate, 32 years old, and spent the past several years working in the private business sector (commercial real estate, business banking, and medical fitness management) before recognizing my joy came from the concepts of business rather than the perpetual execution. I also learned I most thrived when helping others learn, apply, and grow, so I became a teacher.

I want every student who meets with me, regardless of age, to leave feeling inspired, confident, educated, and happy. I excel at creating metaphors to help explain topics, love to laugh and joke, and will deliver the material in a manner best suited for your particular learning style or needs.

Thank you for choosing me. I know it will be a great experience for both of us, and look forward to whatever cases, projects, homework, or concepts I get to help you learn. Please feel free to ask me any questions!

In Good Health,
Dave

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bodybuilding

I am a certified personal trainer by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), with endorsements from Functional Movement Screen (FMS), kettlebells, and TRX. I was Medical Fitness Manager of a 100,000 square foot health club, where my responsibilities included technical staff training for the entire fitness department, personal training program development, meal planning, and similar duties. From there, I moved up to General Manager of a medical fitness / physical therapy clinic, where I acquired more training skills and fitness aptitude. Personally, I have been lifting for many years and am proficient in the major barbell / powerlifting lifts, adhering to the Starting Strength method.

Business

I am a current, full-time business teacher in Massachusetts. My degree is from Babson, the top school in the US for entrepreneurship education. I also teach a course in Entrepreneurship.

Career Development

I currently teach a course called College & Career Planning. As an undergraduate student, I worked in the Center for Career Development at Babson College. Since that time I have transitioned several times between positions, companies, and entire industries. Each of those required calculated strategies, research, negotiations, networking, and even multiple career changer workshops.

Economics

I took multiple economics courses at Babson, and recently have passed the Massachusetts business teacher license test which featured a sizable economics portion. To understand economics means you understand cause and effect, creative thinking, and how everything in our business world is connected to the non-business world. I really enjoy the "what next" line of thinking that's required to learn and teach economics.

Financial Accounting

I currently teach Accounting. I graduated in 2006 with a business degree from Babson, concentrated in Finance. This involved taking multiple accounting courses. I worked nearly a year in an Accountant role, and have utilized accounting principles in subsequent jobs ever since.

Managerial Accounting

I currently teach Accounting. I graduated in 2006 with a business degree from Babson, concentrated in Finance. This involved taking multiple accounting courses. I worked nearly a year in an Accountant role, and have utilized accounting principles in subsequent jobs ever since.

Marketing

I currently teach a Marketing course. Also, as Leasing Broker for commercial real estate, I had to market a variety of business opportunities, spaces, etc. Later in my career, as manager of two medically based fitness centers, I had to market our programs to the public and our staff and services to the physician community.

Prealgebra

I love prealgebra and considered teaching middle school math as an alternative to teaching business. The logical reasoning developed in prealgebra is about as advanced as most people ever will need in life, and those wishing to build upon it need a great foundation. I see it as incredibly important. Personally, I advanced through AP calculus in high school and honors quantitative methods with calculus in college, and therefore am quite comfortable with prealgebra. I am in the process of becoming certified as a middle school math teacher, too, as backup for business in case I move from my school district.

Proofreading

I was proofreader for a friend from Germany writing a graduate thesis in English as a second language. If I helped him, I can help you!
