About Victoria

Students of all Ages, Supportive Family Members and Sponsors,

What consistently sets me apart from other tutors is that I use deep mindful listening to truly hear your needs. Then together we swiftly clarify your priorities and I bridge your existing knowledge to the material ahead of you. I call this technique scaffolding and you'll love the confidence it creates as well as your grade results. What follows will help you make an informed decision about us working together. The right tutor-student match is crucial to your success.

I have a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from the University of Delaware and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from The Johns Hopkins University. By improving writing and quantitative analysis, your academic achievement is guaranteed. I am a licensed secondary education math teacher and I taught as adjunct psychology faculty at Utah State University. I tutor full time and write for publications, consult and advise on issues of diversity and inclusion. I service domestic and international college-preparatory, bachelor's, master's, Ph.D/M.D./D.O./N.D./J.D. and professional continuing education students.

As a senior administrator in college admissions, I have read over 5,000 college essays and am fluent in all varieties of written composition. I am also fluent in French. Students and their families say they really appreciate having access to my 20+ years as an Academic Advisor, Career Counselor and Domestic and international Recruiter to Northeast Colleges; they benefit from my ongoing school counselor and accrediting organization relationships.

If you are studying Business, Communications, Marketing, Hospitality/Hotel Management and similar subjects, get the inside scoop on persuasive writing that includes statistical data and visuals from my professional work as a Public Relations Coordinator for Ben & Jerry's, Corporate Headquarter and as Property Manager for AO LLC Investment Properties. I make whatever subject you are studying relevant with real life examples which answer most "who cares" or "why should I care about this" questions. Writing for media relations, internal publications and stock holder audiences is very different from literature reviews and research methods. I show students how to properly use corporate writing and presentation platforms and collegiate formats such as APA and MLA. From the moment we start working together, they consistently score in the 90th percentile.

Are you an F-1 or J-1 Visa international student? My international students so far come from South America, Canada and recently, China. I use WeChat to teach English and tutor students in Wuhan, China. While Associate Director, Coordinator of Alumnae/i and International Recruitment at Simmons College, I drafted an international recruitment plan and oversaw the recruitment of international undergraduates including reading all applications, maintaining a communications plan with guidance counselors and prospective students and issuing F-1 status I-20s as a SEVIS Designated School Official. You'll receive tailored techniques to help you trans-culturally adapt to American colleges and faculty; these tools immediately improve your performance and will help you with the OPT job preparation process.

I am an Air Force veteran and single mother of a Yale undergraduate. My niche with non-traditional students includes single-parents and military/veterans. I offer a flexible online and in-person platform that lets me help you improve performance on a schedule that works for you. Ask me about applying the 80:20 rule of business to studying and test-taking skills--it really works!

Contact me immediately to experience the difference and succeed faster.

I look forward to working with you,

Victoria

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I teach Algebra I and work very well with deconstructing the concepts that challenge Algebra I students the most. My students have a 100% pass rate on the EOC Math I exam.

Algebra 2

I am an accelerated mathematics teacher at a private middle school and have taught an advanced Algebra I to 8th graders for two years. This includes in depth verbal, graphic, tabular and equation understanding of linear, quadratic and exponential functions. I cover a number of Algebra II topics that go beyond the NC Math I EOC Test. I have good success in helping students differentiate between the real number system properties and the complex. Inequalities, exponents, matrices and logarithms are areas students can stumble on and I help them navigate these by helping them see the "big" picture, focusing on problem deconstruction/proper "set up" and crafting simple formula sheets. I substitute taught Algebra II and Pre-Calculus at Malden Catholic High School in Malden, MA.

Bible Studies

I have Confraternity of Christian Doctrine Course Completion Certifications (CCD) from the Archdiocese of Raleigh, NC. I taught 7th grade Religion for two years at St. Mark Catholic School, Wilmington, NC and was offered a contract to teach Religion prior to having to relocate back to New England. References from the school Principal and Director of Religious Education are available.

I have in-depth Old and New Testament memorized scriptural knowledge spanning 20 years. This includes coursework and teaching in Vacation Bible School programs through Living Hope Christian Church, Williston Vermont (formerly Maranatha Christian Church) and Essex Alliance Church, Essex Junction, VT. I have fluency with both Protestant and Catholic religious formation and worship rituals. I have been a parish cantor for over two decades applying liturgical knowledge to the celebration of the mass.

English

Distinguished in helping international (F-1 Visa), first-generation college, multicultural and continuing education students with increasing writing scores in courses and standardized tests.

I possess a Master's in Liberal Studies from the University of Delaware. which requires over 24 credits of humanities and social studies courses within extensive writing. I also was a Public Relations Coordinator for Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream Corporate Headquarters. This position required writing copy for all media outlets and internal publications. I have worked in Admissions/Enrollment for select private colleges for over 6 years and read over 5,000 college application essays. I later performed and continue to offer independent consultant work to help college-bound students with this process. Lastly, I substitute taught 10th-12th grade English--regular and honors-- at Woburn Memorial Public High School in Woburn, MA.

Geometry

I teach accelerated mathematics in a private middle school which covers content from 7th-10th grade. This includes 1-,2- and 3-D geometry basics, extensive instruction in angle/line/polygon construction, proving lines parallel and perpendicular, ratios, proportions and similarities, coordinate geometry, perimeter/area/surface area and volume with 2-dimensional polygons and 3-dimensional solids. I also do enrichment with formal proofs (SAS, ASA, HL, etc.), Pythagorean Theorem, Heron's Formula and Trigonometry (Sohcahtoa) using TI-84s.

Prealgebra

I am an accelerated mathematics teacher at a private middle school and have taught Pre-Algebra to 7th graders for two years. I deliver a hybrid course that captures all required NC standards for 7th grade EOG test completion, Diocese of Raleigh standards for 8th grade on-level and prerequisite concepts for NC Math I that students take as 8th graders. Currently maintain 100% Math I EOC pass rate for my 8th graders. References available upon request.

Voice (Music)

I am a mezzo-soprano, with professional voice training and sand with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Chorus from 1998-2001 under the direction of Robert DeCormier. I have cantored in the Catholic tradition for over 20 years including wedding and funeral masses. Tutoring voice to improve projection and pronunciation of foreign languages (Latin, French and German) is where I would be of greatest service.

Writing

I possess a Master's in Liberal Studies from the University of Delaware which required extensive writing in humanities and social studies courses as well as a thesis: I am highly proficient in APA, MLA and Chicago citation formats. I have taught and tutored students in writing from middle school through graduate level. I teach English online to international students. As a Public Relations Coordinator, I wrote copy for all media outlets and internal publications. I bridge a person's existing oral and written communication to the writing assignments they are tackling. I call this technique scaffolding and they love the confidence it creates they consistently score in the 90th percentile.

Great with explaining math

My daughter found Victoria's tutoring very helpful. Increased her grade in algebra/geometry a whole level. My daughter is not a math fan to say the least but Victoria explained it and had her understand concepts in a way she could relate to! No doubt excellent tutor , kind and very reliable. We will continue using Victoria. I can't say enough how well she worked with my teen!
