Bio

I have a Bachelor of Science in biology (magna cum laude) and am currently pursuing graduate work. I've been a university-level tutor for the past two years, but I've also worked with children ages 10 and up.

My biology degree is from Rhode Island College, a small state school in Providence with a strong biology department that sends its graduates to medical school and PhD work. My GPA for my total undergraduate career was 3.79/4.00 GPA, with 3.89 in chemistry and a 4.0 in my math courses...

My biology degree is from Rhode Island College, a small state school in Providence with a strong biology department that sends its graduates to medical school and PhD work. My GPA for my total undergraduate career was 3.79/4.00 GPA, with 3.89 in chemistry and a 4.0 in my math courses (not as many, because biology is my passion, but I see math as fun!)

I begin the first tutoring session by talking to the student about how he or she studies, and what he or she can tell me about the material. In doing so, I listen carefully to the student to gain a sense of the student's approach to learning and relationship with the material, and to find out what he or she might need to work on.

We use the book, notes, and visual learning tools that I’ve collected to engage directly in the material, and we review study habits and learning techniques along with the material itself. I review the material with the student and talk about its significance, and about different methods they might use to approach learning on their own.

Tutoring is an opportunity for me to use my skills and passion for both science and communication. I began to study biology and chemistry after almost a decade in art and graphic design. This might seem like a leap, but I've had interest in both fields since I was a child and I am passionate about the communication of science. I love the challenge of explaining difficult concepts and the opportunity to describe the beauty of science.

Absolutely wonderful!

The lessons with Cybele have been wonderful. From day one, my daughter has told me that she is very helpful. I am extremely pleased with the progress my daughter is making this semester, not only are her grades reaching all time highs, her confidence has improved as well. Best decision we made. Thank you so much Cybele!

The Best

The best tutor I ever had for my daughter. Besides being a great tutor, she is a great person who knows how to relate to a struggling teenager with several issues, including emotional stress. I recommend her to anyone!
