I am an engineering student at Brown University with a passion for education, math, physics, art, and French. I have extensive tutoring and teaching experience with students of all ages. In high school, I tutored other high school students in math and physics. I currently teach social studies to third graders as an after school program. Over Winter Break, I also had an education-related internship for a company called Kinvolved which works to improve attendance and graduation rates in schools in underserved communities. Through the internship, I was exposed to different types of teachers and different teaching methods, and could observe which ones were the most effective.
In high school, I took AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Physics C M/EM, AP French, AP Language and Composition, and AP European History and received scores of 5s on each AP test. I also participated in Physics League, Math League, and Robotics Club. I received an SAT score of 2320 with an 800 on the math section. I received a 790 on the SAT 2 for physics and a 750 on the SAT 2 for Math 2. I am an engineering student at Brown University with a passion for education, math, physics, art, and French. Leanne arrived on time and ready to work. She immediately sat with my daughter after a small introduction and began tutoring on Geometry and some Chemistry for the evening. After an hour and a half my daughter was very happy to have had Leanne help her learn more in-depth methods on both subjects. Leanne used different ways to help my daughter learn until she understood it using patience and her experience. We are definitely having multiple sessions set up!
The students Leanne tutors both came with little to work on, as neither had a test to review this week. Usually they have both tests and homework. She was flexible with both, working through previously unanswered questions from an earlier test with the girl. She came away feeling like she finally understood not only where she went wrong but why. With the boy, she went online for problems that matched those he has been working on in class and expects to be tested on text week.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
