About Thomas

I have been teaching English as a Second Language for over ten years at a number of adult programs in Rhode Island, and I am currently teaching at International Institute of Rhode Island, where I have been for eight years. In addition, in the past I taught at colleges and am currently teaching remedial reading and writing at Community College of Rhode Island.

Overall, I have at least ten years as an adult educator. Before teaching, I worked in business and then realized it wasn't my true calling. I like the classroom setting, but I also like the tutorial setting because it allows for more individualized attention than a classroom setting would normally provide.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I worked in the desktop publishing field for years and possess a portfolio of desktop publishing samples. I won production awards for streamlining the publishing process. My proficiency with desktop publishing software is exceptional.
