About Kendra

I hope to instill a love of learning in your child. I have been teaching full time for the past 8 years as a special education teacher. I have instructed students grades PreK-grade 7 in all subject areas including reading, writing, math, science and social studies. I enjoy working with students with unique learning needs and I have a great deal of experience working with students with disabilities. By assessing students and tapping into their strengths, as well as teaching with an awareness towards the best practices in education, I have helped many students make measurable gains. I am trained in and have taught using the Wilson Language program for several years, as a means for teaching struggling readers with decoding and spelling. This is a research-based program with proven results. I also have tutored diverse groups of middle school students in reading, writing and math (including prealgebra and algebra I). I am a former tutor for the Princeton Review and I have helped students prepare for the SATs. I hope to make tutoring a fun and worthwhile experience for you and your child, so that they can better succeed both in the classroom and in life. I hope to instill a love of learning in your child. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I am Special Education certified K-8. I have 7+ years teaching students with ADD/ADHD.
I have taught them organization skills and coping skills.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I am Special Education certified K-8. I have 4 years of experience teaching students on the Autism spectrum . I have done extensive training with the Autism Project in RI. I helped students by creating visuals, schedules, first/then charts, and positive reinforcement.

Dyslexia

I have more than 7 years of experience teaching students with significant reading disabilities. I have helped students make measurable gains using the Wilson Language program.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified as an Elementary Teacher and I taught students in every grade from K-6.

Special Needs

I am certified in Special Education and I have been teaching students with special needs for 8 years.
