About Elizabeth

I have been a student longer than a worker. I enjoy school and expect to take classes throughout my life. Therefore, I have taken many classes that were not reqiured for my field of study. My degree is in Criminal Justice with a Social Work minor but I have taken classes in English and Theatre as well. My tutoring strengths are in fact English and Theatre. I also have a background in Chemistry and History. Math and Biology on the other hand are not my forte. Tutoring is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done and find an excitment working with individual students that I find nowhere else. I beleive that we all have our own way of taking in and assimilating information and that the tutoring environment is ideal for utilizing an individual's styles. I meet the student where they are and adjust my teaching to meet their needs. Classroom teachers don't always have that luxury so I take complete adnvatage of it. Every student deserves to succeed and I am honored to be a part of that. I have been a student longer than a worker. I enjoy school and expect to take classes throughout my life. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Art History

I have two fine art degrees and a ten year teaching record in fine arts. I have a foundation in European art history, some knowledge of Mayan Art and a very strong expertise in contemporary/ modern art and photo history, with photo history being my strongest subject.

Drawing

I have two fine art degrees and have taught as as the sole 2D foundations faculty at Tyler school of art. I myself had a foundations year where we did all kinds of drawing and I often participate in figure drawing classes. I have taught drawing on the right side of the brain to children in after-school programs for the Community Center for Music and Art in Mountain View, CA.

Photography

I have a BFA and and MFA in photography and I have been teaching it at the college level for eight years. In the past few years I have been teaching both digital and analog photography. In addition I know about large format, medium format, color, black and white, documentary, lighting, digital cameras, digital printing, etc. I show regularly nationally and internationally and I just published a book of my work from the last ten years called Two Girls: My Sisters 1996-2006.
