Hi, I am a laboratory professional that can provide instruction with microbiology, biology and general laboratory science. I have been the instructor for students (microbiology rotation) in the school of Medical Technology. I also have been a resource to my daughter's middle school friends with basic science concepts. I find that using more visual learning helps cement basic concepts. (Pins in an orange are a good way to discuss blood types, antibody/antigen adhesion, etc)
I have a Master of Science in all areas of clinical laboratory science. I have over 20 years experience in the hospital setting and now in private industry.
Helping children with their science has been a rewarding experience. Staying on a level they find comfortable has produced excellent results. Patient and progressive learning will take them through the toughest subjects. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have knowledge of antibiotic resistance mechanisms in gram positive and gram negative organisms. I also have an understanding of the action of antibiotics (cell wall disruption, RNA inhibitors, etc). Basic pharmacology was covered in the medical technologist and pharmacy student rotations.
