Teaching is both rewarding and frustrating. The look you get from a child who “gets it” for the first time, the smile they have when they have accomplished a task they once thought was difficult, the excitement they experience when they make a new discovery, are all part of the rewards of teaching. The frustration comes in when you know a student is having difficulty and gives up, or cannot keep focused due to stresses in the home, or the student who wants to “get it” and tries so hard to no avail. As a teacher, I take my responsibilities seriously.
I firmly believe that all children have the capability to learn. My experience however, has shown me that not all children learn by the same methods. For this reason it is my goal and responsibility to find the best method for each child and to inspire and encourage that child to do his/her best. I teach using a multi-discipline approach. I work to find the best approach for each child.
It is my desire to find a way to make a difference in the lives of children. I am constantly re-evaluating my own teaching methods to do what is necessary to reach each student. I take with me many different experiences. First, as a parent of nine children (six of whom are adopted), I have seen firsthand the many different approaches students take to learning. Second, as a previous teacher assistant, I use techniques used while working with students one-on-one who struggled both academically as well as behaviorally. Finally, I take my experience as a teacher and know there is no “textbook” approach that works across the board.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have my Masters Degree in Elementary Education for grades 1-8. I have been teaching for 13 years. I will tutor in any elementary subject matter.
