Hi, my name is Lauren and I am 26 years old. I graduated from Rhode Island College with my BS in Elementary Education and Special Education, with a certification in Early Childhood Education as well. I received my masters degree in ESL (teaching English as a second language) a few years later. I love working with children of all ages. I have experience with children of all ages, as I have worked in a child care facility, as a babysitter, and currently as a Kindergarten teacher. I currently live in Greenville, Rhode Island. However, I am fairly familiar with most of Rhode Island.
I am certified to teach grades pre-k-8 and have experience working with all grades. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching kindergarten for the past 2 years under the Common Core. I am aware of the changes that were made when the standards were changed and I have been teaching to these standards through our curriculum. BS in Elementary Education and Special Education, with a certification in Early Childhood Education as well.
I am qualified to teach this area because I am currently teaching kindergarten in a public elementary school. Prior to this, I taught elementary science for grades 1-6 and before that I subbed in all grades and academic areas from preschool through 8th grade. I have a BS in Elementary Education and Special Education, with a certification in Early Childhood Education as well.
I have spent the last two years teaching kindergarten in RI. I have extensive background in elementary math due to the fact that I spend all year teaching foundational math skills including counting, number ID, 2D and 3D shapes, measurement, addition, and subtraction. Although I am currently teaching kindergarten, I have taught all other elementary grades while subbing in math.
Prior to teaching kindergarten, I was a science teacher for grades 1-6 in a public school in RI. I taught earth, life, and physical science to over 230 students that year. This experience has enabled me to teach elementary science to a variety of ages of students.
I have recently received my Masters in teaching English as a second language. The coursework in this program focused heavily on the foundations of the English language including the many aspects of grammar.
Working as a kindergarten teacher, I spend all year teaching handwriting to my students. I have songs and rhymes to help students in holding the pencil properly and beginning to write letters. I use various curriculum materials that I have acquired over the years including handwriting with tears, early intervention strategies, and core knowledge strategies.
I have spent the last two years teaching kindergarten in RI. I spend all year teaching foundational reading skills, including phonics. I have extensive background in teaching letter sounds, letter names, high frequency word reading, blending sounds to read words, and beginning writing.
Teaching kindergarten this year and last year, I have developed many strategies to teach reading to a variety of levels of students. I have acquired various materials and resources to aid in the teaching of reading as well.
