In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a Kindergarten teacher, I work with many different types of children. Younger students often have a difficult time focusing on an activity for a large chunk of time, so I am creative with how I teach. I have worked with children that have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and have experience making accommodations so that those children are able to learn and progress in a developmentally appropriate way. Hands on activities that allow for movement can be helpful to learners with ADD.
I have been teaching in public schools for 7 years. During this time, I have used the Common Core to align teaching and address specific standards at the Elementary level. Our curriculum is aligned with the Common Core, so I am quite versed in this area.

As a Kindergarten teacher, phonics and phonemic awareness are a huge part of teaching children the foundational skills needed to become a reader. I have used several phonics programs with my young students. I am well versed in teaching children sounds and their corresponding letter combinations. This is an important skill for early childhood teachers to have, as it's the key to helping students become readers.
