About Dana

I have enjoyed teaching a wide variety of subjects and ages from K - 12 in classrooms, co-ops, and one on one tutoring sessions for many years. I am both a visual and kinesthetic learner which is clearly reflected in my teaching/tutoring style- visually colorful and either doing or making something ("hands-on approach") that helps students to retain what they are learning.

I am presently teaching a high school Biology course, Jr High General Science and Geography, and Elementary science. For the past 2 years I have also taught an AP Human Geography course to students who took the APHG exam with a successful pass rate, also, I homeschooled my children who are now presently in college and law school.

Biology is both fascinating and fun to teach as there is so much to do while learning! Experiments, dissections, coloring to highlight organisms thereby helping to gain a deeper appreciation of many of the living things surrounding us,

I endeavor to make learning fun so that especially in elementary school students experience the wonder and joy of science. Many of my students love my classes and one on one tutoring sessions because of the experiments or activities we do together helps to understand basic scientific concepts.

In my AP Human Geography class, all of my students passed the AP exam with a 3 or 4 except for one student. I work hard at understanding the material and try to present it in different ways to my students endeavoring to find their learning style to see what ways are best for learning the material. In World Geography we study the world by continents, play geography games, "eat our way around the world" and try to experience some aspects of culture.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
