Math for me was a mystery until the lights turned on through an excellent teacher in high school. I know first hand how guided learning can change math from frustration to freedom. Who would have thought I would be teaching math and loving it after so many years struggling in junior high and high school! Besides teaching and tutoring math, I homeschooled four children K-12. Two of them are now engineering students in college.
Your child likely has mental roadblocks in solving math problems. They may think, "I can't do this," and that is their biggest roadblock of all! I eat roadblocks for breakfast! Your child will learn the paths around these blocks as I give them tools to solve problems they feel are impossible. As they see small victories, they find their steps around these road blocks, and they leave them behind!
Your son or daughter doesn't need the course to be retaught. They need someone to figure out the precise pieces that are missing in their understanding. I will find those missing pieces and complete the picture. You want an analyst, coach and encourager for your child. I've had experience with students who are several years behind their grade level in math. I have often brought them back to grade level. And even more than that, some came to enjoy the challenge of math.

My daughter had her first tutor session with Joanne yesterday and she came home so happy! She was so thankful for Joanne's help to get ready for her mid term exam in Pre AP Geometry. Amanda said, "Joanne is definitely in the right profession, and she is amazing at what she does. My first session, in only 1 hour, I already feel much more positive, she helped me so much! I can't wait for my next session with her on Friday. I'm sorry mom if this is expensive but, She is worth every penny!" So, thank you so much Joanne! Before Amanda studied with you, she said she had no hope for this midterm and after yesterday she said, "I think I can do this!" So, besides all the material you covered with her, you gave her hope and confidence, which is a big part of the battle! Looking forward to the next session on Friday! Thank you from all of us!
P.S. I as a mom also dropped the ball in getting my daughter extra help, now that we are already at midterms next week. When, I contacted Joanne, I asked if my daughter could get 2 sessions in before next week. She got right back to me, worked around Amanda's schedule, and made everything work out. Can't say enough good things! Thanks Joanne! Hopefully I have made my daughter happy, she said, "Mom you have to go on the web site you found Joanne on and give her a really good review. I can't believe how good she is!" Thanks again!
Joanne has been working with our daughter on Geometry. She is a very skilled teacher, patient and caring. Joanne has done a fantastic job helping our daughter understand the key concepts. We are very grateful for her help. Highly recommended!
Joanne was a great tutor for my son taking Geometry this year. She greatly assisted him in understanding the concepts. She would rearrange her schedule if my son had a midterm or final exam to extend the session in preparation. She is a very nice and patient tutor. I give her my highest recommendation.
My son has had three sessions with Joanne and each one has been very valuable and has assisted with his understanding of geometry concepts greatly. He got low grades on his first quiz and test, and after working with Joanne, he got a 80% and 100% on his next two quizzes!
Joanne rearranged her schedule to tutor my son for two hours to help him prepare for a end-of-quarter geometry test. Her help was invaluable and it resulted in my son receiving a B on the test (and hopefully higher with some corrections). Thank you Joanne for your great tutoring!
Joanne helped my daughter prepare for her SAT's. After each session our daughter felt very encouraged and more confident. She took the SAT's last Saturday and feels that she did very well because of the guidance and instruction she received from Joanne. We can not recommend Joanne enough! She is knowledgeable, patient, encouraging, and is an excellent tutor.
She has a great way with both my children. They both feel empowered with a subject neither of them like or have a strong foundation in.
I can honestly say that the complete tutoring process from start to finish with Joanne exceeded all of our expectations. I highly recommend her to any family that may need any Geometry tutoring.
Joanne W. has been such a great tutor for my daughter and has helped her tremendously with her 10th grade geometry. My daughter looks forward to her sessions with Joanne which have provide the additional help she needs and has also given her the confidence she was lacking in this class. Her grades have consistently improved since she started her sessions with Joanne and just as important, Joanne is a tutor that truly cares about her students- her follow through and kindness is something that is hard to find today. I would highly recommend Joanne as a tutor for any child in need of additional guidance in math- she is truly a wonderful person and an excellent tutor!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
