I am a native Portuguese speaker from Brazil. I am currently teaching Portuguese at University of Massachusetts and Bridgewater State University. I have taught Portuguese to college students for three years and teaching Portuguese have become my passion since them. I have met all kind of students: some students had a strong base of Portuguese brought from home; some had a weak base, but had a huge interest to learn the language and culture; and some of them had high expectations to learn their parents or grandparents language. For these students, to learn and speak Portuguese mean to be able to communicate with their loved ones. Sometimes I feel that those students are trying to learn the language, so that they can preserve the links with their families. In addition, learning foreign language can be a great advantage for these students in their professional careers.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
