About Beth

I have been a High School English Teacher for 12 years, and have tutored steadily throughout that that time.

I have worked with students of all reading levels, learning disabilities, and with all types of behavioral problems.

I try to make learning fun. For example, for an Expository/Informational lesson, I asked students to write specific directions about how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. They were then asked to develop the list into a paragraph, including all of the paragraph elements. Then, I would actually make the sandwiches in class following their directions exactly. It turned into a hilarious class, with sandwiches sometimes looking like two sided tacos!

Students are comfortable with and learn from me! I worked them hard, but I think it is important to keep their attention to assist in keeping them on-task.

I hope to hear from you! I think I have a lot to offer your student!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I have taught Secondary English (full-time, part-time, subbing, and home tutoring one on one) for over 15 years and feel as though I have a lot to offer students both in my style of teaching and my skills. I hope to hear from you!

Public Speaking

I have worked as a teacher, standing in front of classrooms, auditoriums, and even larger venues. Additionally, my minor in college was Communications.

Reading

I have tutored many students of all ages and challenges in reading comprehension and analysis. I can help your student while making it fun! I have a laid-back rapport with kids and they are generally very comfortable with me - which helps!

Writing

I specialize in writing and help students with graphic organizers, the writing process, and how to be a thorough writer! Students are at ease with me and that tends to help them be more comfortable and willing to learn!
