In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
During my Masters program in Counseling at Loyola Marymount University, I became fascinated with the work of John Holland, a pioneer in the field of Career Counseling. Mr. Holland's work focuses on to what extent a particular work environment matches with the natural gifts and talents of individuals. His evaluation tools are quick and easy to use, and come with specific career paths associated with each set of results. It would be my pleasure to administer this technology to your personal circumstances and provide a customized snapshot of where your greatest career fulfillment may reside.
Counseling college bound students is a great passion of mine. My three years as Guidance Counselor at Westchester High School in Los Angeles provided me with a rich base of knowledge when matching students to the college that is right for them. In addition, the unforgettable experience I had as an undergraduate at Brown University deepens my enthusiasm for introducing your student to the college that will set the course for the rest of their lives.
My years of teaching elementary school will provide an excellent background to assist your student in whatever academic challenges they may be currently facing. Younger children are always such a pleasure to work with, and I have a proven track record of building quick rapport with most every child I encounter as a Tutor. In addition, I come to the Tutor/Student relationship with a Masters Degree in Counseling which consistently proves to be a great resource in supporting each student to risk, learn and succeed both in and out of the classroom.
English has always been my favorite subject, and I especially love literature. As a professional actor, my major responsibility is to serve the writer's ideas so it is imperative that I grasp the significance of each literary concept prior to delivering it to the audience. My mother was an English teacher for 30 years, so my grammar is perfect!
I have been a member of the Screen Actors Guild since 1996, and this month (February 21, 2012) a film ("Inkubus") in which I play a pivotal role will be available in 80 million homes via Video on Demand. In addition to acting in numerous films and television shows, I have also produced film utilizing the Screen Actors Guild contract system and extensively researched the film festival circuit which provides a career launchpad for so many new filmmakers.
I adore literature and have read many of the greatest books of the English language. John Steinbeck is my favorite author, and I will never forget reading "Of Mice and Men", a story that moved me to tears at a very young age. Literature is one of the great treasures of life and I look forward to sharing my joy of it with your student!
