About Matthew

From the time I was in grade school, I have been helping others to learn one-on-one. I was considered "gifted" because I understood and completed my work very quickly, and so I was asked to work with other students.

I have always enjoyed the experience no matter who I was tutoring. Whether a student finds academics easy or difficult or somewhere in between, I am able to help them to understand the concepts and learn the process for completing their work. I am patient, soft-spoken, and respectful. I listen extremely well and watch the students to gauge understanding as they carry out the steps of each problem which is the key to effective tutoring.

I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education from Rhode Island College. I received honors in student teaching at Barrington High School in the Spring of 1997. I have tutored privately for more than twenty years.

I am an actuary currently working in health insurance and received my Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society in 2005.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
