My love of teaching comes directly from my own love of learning - reading, writing, creating and experiencing life! My formal education is in English Literature, Elementary and Special Education. I am an avid reader - frequently reading multiple books at one time as well as numerous different magazines and journals. I have worked with children for over 20 years - in both formal and informal learning environments. Additionally, as a parent of two children I have the advantage of having experience from both sides of a classroom - as a teacher and as a mother. I am currently looking to help students (elementary, middle and high school) with writing and editing essays and papers.
I am able to provide tools for developing essays, such as graphic organizers and vocabulary builders, as well as editing assistance. I will review and proofread a students work and will help them to check the following key areas: content (does it answer the assignment), structure (organization, strong introduction and conclusion, opening sentences), style (tone is appropriate and consistent, language is clear), grammar (spelling, punctuation, run-on sentences). I will provide clear and constructive feedback with the outcome being to help the student to improve their writing skills. It is my goal to help the student in finding the areas of confusion or weakness in their writing and assist them in strengthening their own voice. I will not do the thinking or writing for the student!
I prefer to edit via email, but am willing to meet with students in person at the local library.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to be the best writer that you can be! My love of teaching comes directly from my own love of learning - reading, writing, creating and experiencing life! My formal education is in English … Read more
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
