John Jay College of Criminal Justice (Criminology)
Former Criminologist-turned-journalist, and award-winning editor, and documentary filmmaker will help children who are struggling with English (oral, written) and History subjects. With 10+ years of working as a writer for magazines, newspapers, and editing manuscripts (as well as some tutoring) under my belt, I believe I am more than qualified to assist any child at any learning level. One of the best aspects of tutoring is seeing the improvement in students and how their confidence increases as they continue to practice and grow their skills.
As a working journalist in both English and Spanish language, I do know the challenges that is to many - to properly convey the message to audiences/readers. Learning from award-winning editors and becoming one myself, I believe this qualifies me to teach writing, and communicating in English. Proofreading is a key to proper written communication and public speaking is part of my job - and I have adequately coached a few people how to do so effectively.
If you're interested in improving your writing, oral and over all communication skills in English please contact me to schedule your first session. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
