About Juan Jose

I have had ample experience providing training in history and political/electoral processes. I have worked on a one-on-one basis, as well as with small groups.

I have written books on the political/electoral history of Puerto Rico, which have been published. Specifically, I wrote a book in 1996 about the elections held in Puerto Rico between 1960 and 1992. Recently, I wrote a book on election statistics from 1899 to 2008, and updated it to include 2012. I wrote this book in Spanish, English, and a bilingual (English/Spanish)version.

I updated my book on the electoral history of Puerto Rico by writing on the elections from 1899 to 2008 (I will be working on the 2012 chapter shortly). My books have been published and include full statistics, statistics, and illustrations (pictures, sample ballots and, if possible, ads for the different party that participated in each election).

I have a BA in a double major (1) Interdisciplinary Studies in Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics & Government; and, (2) Political Sciences. I have a Juris Doctor as well. I have a passion for history/social studies/political sciences, and would like to teach any of those subjects. I even took the Texas Certification Exam in History, and passed it.

I really enjoy helping people learn History, Social Studies or Political Sciences. I have been a trainer for poll workers/watchers for the 2004, 2008 and 2012 election. I have given training lessons to groups and individuals, from various backgrounds.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Criminal Justice

I have a Juris Doctor, and have litigated criminal cases, and criminal appeals in state and federal courts.
I have the experience and patience teaching groups of people.

Government & Politics

I am qualified to teach or tutor government and politics, as I have been a participant in government and politics. In government, I have worked in the Puerto Rico Senate, the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, and the State Elections Commission.
In politics, I have worked with political candidates, elected officials and as an officer of the Elections Commission. I served as Alternate Electoral Commissioner in the Ponce 061 board, during the 2012 election year, including the primaries, a referendum held in August of 2012, and the general election & status plebiscite held on November 6th, 2012.
I have written books on the electoral processes of Puerto Rico since 1899, and a compilation of election statistics (for general elections), also since 1899.

Social Studies

I am fully qualified to teach this subject based on my overall experience studying government systems, law, and history. I have conducted ample research on the organization of society in Puerto Rico and the United States. As a Committee Director in the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, I had the opportunity to see the working relationship between the branches of government, as well as between the legislative branch and the citizens.
