Interamerican University (ESL)
Turabo University (Master's)
I was born on the Island of Puerto Rico, but I was raised in Bronx New York, where I lived until, I was 12 years old. My parents made the decision to move to the island of Puerto Rico. I attended the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and graduated in 2008, completing a BA in English as a Second Language Education. I also attended the Puerto Rico University and completed a minor in Spanish Literature.
Nowadays, I work for the Department of Education of Puerto Rico for the past 16 years teaching ESL in a public school. In December 2014 I completed a Master's Degree in TESOL at the Turabo University of Puerto Rico, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude. Living in Puerto Rico has provide me with the opportunity to grow and develop, both in my personal and professional life.
I love teaching and torturing for many reasons, but mostly those special "aha" moments when the light bulbs goes off and the student "gets it," the "it" being whatever concept or strategy we have been working on. It begins building a relationship with the child/ student and getting to know them as a person, what interest them inside and outside the school. I believe in my students and their ability to succeed academically and overall. I LOVE teaching and tutoring! I LOVE watching students grow and become more self-confident as students, readers, ESL, TESOL or Spanish. Everyone needs to know that someone believes in them. My students know that I believe in them, today, tomorrow, and always. I was born on the Island of Puerto Rico, but I was raised in Bronx New York, where I lived until, I was 12 years old. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
