The most valuable resource one can pass on to the next generation is a passion for learning, understanding and wisdom. Awakening this passion is my chief aim, bringing enjoyment and engagement to any topic or training through games, hands on activities, and storytelling.

My core skill set is one of unearthing avenues of connection between information and individuals; and between diverse groups (such as IT and Artists). I do a lot of tool development to enable efficiencies, create effective tracking, or explain processes and information. PowerPoint, Excel, Prezi, Socrative.com, TeachCast and Skype are among my most often used digital platforms. However, often a hands on game, card matching or roleplaying connects learners to information in fun and memorable ways.

I have overseas experience, having taught ESL in Japan for 4 years. I have held instructor and program director roles at YTI Career Institute at Mechanicsburg, York and Lancaster campuses where I have been granted Instructor of the Term and Employee Excellence awards. I have also trained in the corporate world / healthcare facilities - both UPMC Pinnacle and WellSpan. I am MOS certified in Excel at the Expert Level, possess a BA in Psychology from Nyack College, and graduated Full Sail University Online with a Masters of Science in Instructional Design and Technology. Most recently I have been working with Penn State as an instructional design consultant through TEKsystems.

In my private time I have been involved in physical wooden game design, digital video production, computer graphics design (Maya, Photoshop, Strata 3D), tutoring mathematics, and accounting spreadsheet design for a handful of local businesses and churches.

I look forward to creating an environment for you where the excitement of learning is contagious.

Business

Microsoft Excel,

Microsoft Excel

I have developed advanced Excel spreadsheets for business; including VBA and macro coding for advanced functionality such as buttons and invoking email from within Excel. I have also instructed Excel at the Associate Degree level at a local career school since 2011.
Public Speaking,

Public Speaking

I have taught Public Speaking as a stand alone Communications course as well as an integral part of both Career Success and Professional Development courses at YTI Career Institute since 2011. In addition, I have volunteered as a guest speaker at my church several times. Prior to relocating back to the States in 2002, my job for six years was public speaking at weddings in Japan. I also have numerous stage and acting performances from both high school and college under my belt. I enjoy being in front of people, however, I was extremely shy as a child.

Computer

Macintosh,

Macintosh

I have been working with Macintosh computers intensively since I purchased my PowerMac 8500 in 1998. Safari, Firefox, Mail, Desktop settings and user preferences, QuickTime Pro, Mac Office, iApps (iTunes, iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto, Keynote, Numbers, Pages), Open Office, Strata 3D, Adobe Photoshop, Drag Thing, Stuffit, and many more applications. I am well versed in OS 8.0 ~ OS X (10.9).
Microsoft Access,

Microsoft Access

I have designed Access databases from the ground up for external and internal clients at both JFC Staffing Companies and Book-of-the-Month Club in Mechanicsburg. These databases include SQL macros and coding as well as forms, reports, and table creation. Careful attention to planning what types of reports and information the user will need to pull out of these databases is the key to developing table structure and key fields. In addition, I have taught Access to adults in various departments at YTI Career Institute since 2011 as a part of the MS Office suite.

Corporate Training

Japanese,

Japanese

I lived in Japan for ten years. It was a necessity to learn the language as I was living on my own in a detached home for the first four years. It was quite the adventure. The immersion definitely accelerated my acquisition of the language. I am familiar with the kana syllabaries (katakana and hiragana) and know several score kanji symbols. I would be best at conversational Japanese for getting by in daily life.
