Temple University (Early Childhood Ed)
My name is Erin, and I am a current preschool teacher. I have my B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Temple University in Philadelphia, and I am certified to teach Preschool to Fourth Grade in Pennsylvania. My passions are in science and languages. As a life long student, I am constantly learning new strategies to implement. My interests are varied, so I hope I am able to relate to any student and learning style.
In University, I had 4 years of coursework about teaching as well as 4 years of hands on experience with teaching, from ages 5 to 40. I was an English Language tutor and writing tutor for college/grad students while working in the classroom with younger students. Tutoring let me develop a relationship with my student so I could focus my attention and tailor my teaching to the students' needs.
I am passionate about learning and teaching, and this passion translates to my instruction.
Math can be difficult for many students, but I believe that if you make math more fun and like a game, students will be more responsive and understanding. Because I teach through hands on methods, you will rarely find me using the book method of teaching.
I worked alongside SAT Prep Tutors at a tutoring center as an assistant. Working with these experience tutors, I learned what topics to focus on and how to go about understanding the questions which is an integral part of understanding the SATs.
Science is one of my passions, particularly the discovery portion. I use exploration science to show my students the different properties of various topics.
As a teacher and recent graduate, I had the most up to date coursework in literacy and phonics with students. Understanding the hierarchy that is in phonics and how to move from one level to the other is a delicate process which I have been able to practice with my preschool students as we get them ready for reading.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
