I have taught high school for 19 years, and college for 8 years (part-time). I am considered a very excellent teacher that just seems to make the math easy to understand. I have a unique style to simplify the difficulty and a cut-to-the-chase approach. I do not get bogged down with high level details, but I DO try to get the student to see how what they are doing is related to other parts of math. I try to get them to see how what they are learning is building to a new concept and where it might be useful in the real world. I possess a high level of patience, and never get angry or upset with my students. The number of students that obtain an F grade is on the average of two out of every 25 students. Those that received that grade are usually those that have not done the required work (even after I have been after them for many days to work on it and get help if they needed it), or they have stopped coming to class, or have given up and refused to seek any outside help.
My vast experience working with various ages has given me the ability to adjust to many different learning styles. My schooling from grades 1-8 was poor, and I had to actually do part of my learning on my own when I went into high school. But, that has given me the unique approach to teaching hard material since I had to learn it in a way that I could remember and pass tests. That learned behavior has given me a learning style that allows me to remember the Math for many years instead of in the here-and-now.
Everyone that I have taught or tutored has remarked that I have a knack to make math easy. So now it is your turn to use my experience for your learning of math. You will be surprised just how easy math can really be. If the student follows my suggestions, then their grades will improve (I have a 98% success rate with that).
I do not believe in giving the answer without explanation. My method to teaching/tutoring is to get the student to use more thinking skills. Students that are not robots (doing what the teacher tells them to do, without knowing why), make much better all around students – therefore I explain why they are to do certain steps in the mathematical process.
When I reply to your request I state where I live. That is so that you know how far I am willing to travel to work with you. I do not charge for travel time. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught Pascal for 7 years on the College level. I also have programmed professionally using Pascal. I also Have a BS degree in Computer Science. The programs that I wrote were very involved business applications for a student loan company.
Praxis is much like the SAT. It test for knowledge. It also test to see how your thinking skills are developed. The Praxis I test, test on knowledge up to Algebra II. The Praxis II test is more subject specific knowledge and up to calculus. In a previous job, I have tutored many for the Praxis I (Math portion) and Praxis II (Math portion).
