I have over 30 years of public school teaching experience in special education. My bachelor's degree is in both regular and special education. My masters degree is in teaching children with emotional disturbance and learning disabilities. My experience includes teaching children from kindergarten through grade 6. I taught for 15 years in Montgomery County Maryland public schools with children identified as emotionally disturbed and learning disabilities. I also had experience teaching regular elementary grades 2 and 3. In addition I worked in a specials school for students with multiple disabilities. After moving to York, PA I taught briefly for the Lincoln Intermediate Unit and then transferred to a local public school district. I retired in March of 2012. M

I have extensive experience working with Orton Gillingham materials and Structural Arithmetic for early math skills. Because of my experience, my approach tends to be diagnostic/prescriptive. In other words, identify where the problem is occurring and remediate with research based materials and programs. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
