Approachable, patient, and experienced, I'm ready to help motivated learners of any age. I have spent most of my career in middle and high school education, and have shifted more of my time toward tutoring because I want to focus on education, not classroom management. Let me help you get to the next level of understanding in math or science, or in your work with computers.
In addition to my 8 years as a certified teacher with public schools in NYC, I have worked in computer repair/troubleshooting within and outside of the classroom. I have an A+ hardware certification, and have worked with a range of platforms and software tools. I am also a native Hungarian speaker (came to the US when I was 8, so I have flawless English, too) and an avid reader. I taught my preschooler to read in the last year, and have taught reading for ACT/SAT, so I'm happy to help with reading at any level. So, let's get started! Laszlo has been working with my son on Algebra 2/Trig and his grades are improving and has more confidence So glad we found him!
My son learned a lot from Laszlo, who was strong, patient, kind, pleasant, and very knowledgeable. He helped my son organize his science fair project data and made it more clear. I'm super glad to have found Laszlo and my son is looking forward to working with him again.
Great first lesson in Excel. He is very calm and patient with me. I am so grateful that I found such a great tutor.
Great first lesson with my son on ACT Math. He was able to identify areas where my son needed strengthening of his math skills. My son is looking forward to continuing to work with Laszlo to get the best score possible!
Laszlo was very patient and clear during tutoring. He has a calm manner about him, which also helped my daughter maintain calm as she approached each math problem. He provided practical strategies to my daughter as well as positive reinforcement, both of which I could hear in her voice and see in her smile relieved her from much stress, and, gave her confidence that she can master this SAT! While homework might annoy or stress her out given her limited time, she took it in total stride and is eager to stay on top of her studying. In just one hour, Laszlo transformed my daughter's apprehension of this test in such a dramatic way that it is now a realistic challenge! Sitting in the next room, it was wonderful to hear my daughter ask questions, get answers, and then have Laszlo tell her "That's exactly right!" My husband, a high school math teacher, also praised Laszlo for the way he explained certain strategies that my husband also uses with his own students, and has seen first-hand how they work! Our daughter really learned so much, and is looking forward to future tutoring sessions with Laszlo. I highly recommend you schedule a tutoring session with Laszlo NOW!
It was so hard for me to apply what I learned from my professor in class but after my session I was able to apply every single thing and I had a better of understanding what to do
Laszlo was very knowledgeable and patient. He took his time making sure I understood the material. I got an A on my test.
The tutor’s communication, professionalism, punctuality and expertise were on point. Great fit for my needs. I would/will use him again as applicable.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The first computer I had, as a teenager, ran on DOS and Windows 3.1. Most of the popular games of the time (such as the original Doom) ran on DOS, so I became familiar with the command line interface by necessity. Nowadays, I sometimes use DOS, or at least its command line interface, when troubleshooting Windows computers.
I am a native Hungarian speaker - I lived in Hungary and went to school there until 2nd grade. My Hungarian is at an intermediate level, with excellent native pronunciation and everyday vocabulary, but lacking a full adult vocabulary. I can provide a solid introduction to Hungarian as well as conversational practice.
I used Ubuntu Linux as my primary operating system for about 2 years, so I'm very familiar with it. I'm also proficient with Inkscape and the GIMP (native Linux programs similar to Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, respectively) and I've taught those programs to high school students as a computer teacher.
Last year as a teacher, I used my school-provided MacBook Pro for all lesson planning, grading and corresponding with parents, teachers and administrators. I have also maintained a computer lab full of Macintosh computers, where I've installed and upgraded programs, fixed problems, and even reinstalled the operating system.
As a computer teacher, I have taught Microsoft Excel to middle school and high school students. I can show you shortcuts for entering data quickly and efficiently, how to use formulas and sort information, and how to add properly-labeled charts appropriate for your data. With a solid introduction, you can be making useful, great-looking spreadsheets and charts in no time.
As a computer teacher, I have taught Microsoft PowerPoint to middle school and high school students. I can walk you through the steps of creating slides, adding images and sounds, and making use of transitions, animations and different color schemes. With a solid introduction, you can be making great-looking slides in no time.
I use Microsoft Windows as my primary operating system. I know how to customize it and install/remove programs. I have an A+ certification which demonstrates competence as a computer technician who can maintain and troubleshoot PCs.
I studied for and took the Praxis exams as part of my certification process to become a classroom teacher. I scored in the 97th to 99 percentiles on the various components, including elementary education as well as math, reading and writing. Also, I currently teach SAT & ACT test prep classes, which are similar in structure to the Praxis exams.
I have a graduate degree in education, and focused for my masters thesis on self-directed learning. I have subsequently gained experience as a teacher and tutor over the past 10+ years. Tutoring programs and schools I have worked with in Seattle and New York incorporate study skills guidance alongside the main subject knowledge. I have assisted students from all educational levels with their homework and test preparation, and I have a non-confrontational and organized approach that helps me connect with students.
