Chess has been the game that teaches more lessons then just the capture of your opponent's pieces and a victory. Rather, the game is the learning of life-long lessons that will benefit you whether you become a master or stay a novice. The game is never repetetive

As a retired teacher with 30 years experience, I have spent most of my work experience in the elementary school level and have been able to instruct English to many students of different cultural backgrounds.
I enjoy the relaxed interaction during the tutorials as I usually learn and benefit from the exchanges. I had his lesson for the first time. It was great. I'm not good at speaking and listening to English, and I would like to improve. He asked my goals and gave me the lesson according to my request. At the first lesson, he taught me correct pronunciation of some words carefully. It was difficult but a big help to me. I would like to go on with his lessons, and I'm sure that my English skills will become better.
It was a long time coming, but Alan G. and I finally made the connection and had our first lesson. Alan G. is teaching my 7 year old son chess. Alan G. is very knowledgeable and patient. I think my son and Alan G. enjoyed themselves equally and would agree that the hour went by too fast. We look forward to the next session!
He is very easy to talk to. I was nervous about asking for help with something I had struggle with for years. But I was determined to fix my issues this year. He makes you feel really comfortable so you are able to talk about your problems and together you will come up with solutions. Very patient and he actually cares about you succeeding. That is very rare, that a stranger cares about the well being of other. A great guy!
My child at nine years of age has a busy schedule and Mr. Alan has always been available for changing days, coming earlier or later which is very important. In addition, he spends quality time with my son and always stays later than his scheduled time.
Alan is an excellent tutor. I learned a great deal during my chess lesson! Not only is he a great player, but he is also a patient instructor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Besides playing chess I receive great enjoyment in introducing the game to others and in improving the skill level of those who already play. Chess teaches many thinking skills that can be applied to other areas of life.
My background in chess began some fifty years ago in elementary school ; progressing to high school and college teams. I've introduced the game to many teens and adults and have participated in many chess clubs. Alan Grolnic
