In my life I have worked in a wide variety of fields including restaurants, Human Service, marketing, retail management and (of course) teaching. I find having this broad work experience to be a major advantage in teaching because it allows me to show how the subjects we learn in school are actually used in the real world. In my life I have worked in a wide variety of fields including restaurants, Human Service, marketing, retail management and (of course) teaching. I find having this broad work experience to be a major advantage in teaching because it allows me to show how the subjects we learn in school are actually used in the real world. As a result, I welcome the inevitable question, “why are we bothering to learn this?” because I believe that answering this question inevitably leads to a better understanding of the subject and why it is worth learning.

In addition, unlike most teachers, my skills are not limited to teaching one or two subjects. I am currently certified to teach Middle School Math, Elementary Education, Social Studies, and Earth Science. As a result, I can be particularly effective helping students who are struggling in more than one topic.

I also excel in standardized tests. My personal scores in the tests needed to become certified in my subjects were all significantly above the average teachers taking those tests. My Social Studies score actually earned a Recognition of Excellence Award for a score that ranked in the top 15% of all test takers. In my days as a high school student, my standardized test scores were routinely notable - including receiving a Commended Student award for high PSAT scores. While these scores certainly demonstrate a strong academic background, they also indicate a high degree of comfort with standardized tests in general. As a result, in addition to knowing the subject I teach very well, I am also very good at teaching the test taking techniques that can further boost these scores. In this day and age where standardized tests are so important, that little bit of extra help could be the difference between academic success and failure.

In short, I think this combination of broad life experience, the ability to teach a wide variety of topics and familiarity with standardized testing makes me an obvious choice for most students seeking help.
