About Quinten

Hi! I'm Quinn, and I am a multi-subject tutor. I attend Lycoming College, and have been tutoring for about 6 years. I was a student in the International Baccalaureate Program in high school, and earned both my Advanced Studies Diploma and my IB Diploma. I am studying Psychology and Spanish.

What I love the most about tutoring is helping my students make meaningful progress. I do a lot of peer mentoring of life skills with local students with disabilities, which is my passion. I like to make learning easy, fun, and accessible to all. Working with people with disabilities and special needs is my career goal, and I am experienced in tutoring these students as well. I have worked with both peers and younger students in the past, and am comfortable with all sorts of students.

I was enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Mathematics Studies program in high school. I scored a perfect 7 on my math exit exam. I have also aced college-level statistics since then. While math is not my favorite subject, I like to make it fun and interesting by applying it to real life and drawing connections for my students.

I am also passionate about writing. I have completed many lengthy college-level papers, as well as working in my school's Academic Resource Center. I can help with paper planning, organization, grammar, editing, etc. I can be of service at any point in the writing process!

I have a decently compact class schedule this fall, so I am available evenings and weekends. I have my own transportation. I am very easy-going and open-minded, so don't be shy! Contact me to learn more about my services and schedule!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary Math

I am very comfortable with elementary math tutoring as I am good with young kids and I excel in math. I also passed my IB Mathematics Studies exit exam with a perfect score.

Hard Of Hearing

I am hard-of-hearing myself, and as such have developed many techniques for breaking through speech barriers. I am proficient in ASL and PSE. I am also aware of the struggles of d/Deaf/HOH individuals and Deaf Culture.

Proofreading

I have been a peer mentor at Lycoming College for a year, as well as in the International Baccalaureate Program for four. This included not only group-writing a 2000 word internal assessment, but writing and revising four other internal assessments and a 4000 word Extended Essay. I also passed my college composition course with an A and work for the college's Academic Resource Center.

Reading

I have experience tutoring in reading both on an elementary level through a high-school to elementary school tutoring program, and on a high-school to college level through my job as a peer mentor. As a peer mentor, I work with students with disabilities, who often need help re-learning how to read effectively. This includes not only college-level active reading strategies, but basic comprehension work.

Special Needs

As a student assistant in Lycoming College's Office of Disability Services, I work with many students with special needs. I do a lot of peer mentoring for students with special needs, as well as serving as a test proctor, and have served as a gymnastics instructor, babysitter, and tutor for students with special needs before. I have about 5 years experience working with students with disabilities. The disabilities I have the most experience with are: Autism, ADHD, Specific Learning Disabilities, hearing loss, and psychological disabilities.

Study Skills

I work for Lycoming College as a peer mentor, and my main mentoring topic is study skills. I have been doing this for a year, and use information from the college's Study Skills Course, as well as pertinent information and methods from psychology.
