I love math and teaching. There is an awesome reward when watching a struggling student as he begins to understand what he needs to do and how everything fits together.
I previously taught Algebra I, II, III, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Intro to Statistics, and SAT review in a public school. I have tutored students as well, with tasks ranging from locating weak spots in arithmetic skills, assisting honors students looking for a jump start, helping homeschooled students, and tutoring a Calculus student who was unable to attend classes for half of the year.
I believe every student needs to identify his learning style as visual, auditory, or kinesthetic, and then I teach teach him accordingly to help with comprehension and retention. Visual learners need more visual aids, Kinesthetic learners need more hands-on activities, and auditory learners need to summarize information in paragraph form
Tutoring location is flexible, in my home, your home, a school, or possibly a library. I look forward to hearing from you in order to help your student achieve success. I love math and teaching. Lois is extremely helpful and teaches math in a way that teens understand. So glad I found her! Lois tutors my son in Trig/Precalc and really has been a blessing! My son said she's the only substitute teacher that actually teaches the lessons... and even better than the math teacher! A++
Lois was very accommodating with fitting my daughter into her busy schedule and we are very appreciative of her flexibility. She is patient and knowledgeable and my daughter feels confident after her help. My daughter will benefit greatly with her continued tutoring. Thank you!
Lois worked with my daughter, who has ADHD and fidgets quite a bit when having to sit for a lesson for a long period, especially in the evening. Lois kept her engaged and interested in the work. My daughter enjoyed working with her, even though she usually dislikes math. She said she feels like she learned from Lois, which is the most important part.
Lois has a big heart - for teaching and for the success of her students! My son's confidence increased even after just one session.
I was searching for a local tutor for my nephew when I came across Lois M.'s profile. Her profile was exactly what we needed. I sent a message and within a few hours I had a response and the next day we had an appointment for tutoring.
My nephew really enjoyed working with Lois and ended up doing a 3 hour session. He said she made it very easy to learn the math he needed to learn. He will be going again later in the week for another session. I can see the confidence in him already. She is very nice and professional and knows how to work with the children. I am so glad we found Lois. Another plus is if we need her during the school year she's available.
We are very pleased after just one day how much better he understood the pre calc math.
If your looking for a great tutor I highly recommend Lois.
Thank you Lois, it's going to help make his school year better.
Anthony's tutoring is going extremely well and his confidence level is really increasing due to his understanding of math problems and learning tips to help improve his memory of past learnings. We are happy with the progress and look forward to every Wednesday to see his knowledge and enthusiasm increase.
Thank you Lois.
After only two tutoring sessions, my son is already feeling more confident in the class. I am confident that because of Lois, he will not only excel in his course, but actually learn to love math!!!
Lois has been very attentive with my daughter. They are working on 10th grade trig and precalc. We had 3 lessons already and my daughter is happy with her teaching.
Mrs. Lois is a very experienced math teacher for whom I have a great deal of respect. She is very thorough and always ensures that her students understand the material. I always leave a session feeling as though I’ve absorbed a great deal of information that will undoubtedly help me as I approach the upcoming school year and the SAT. Thanks, Mrs. Lois!
We have had several sessions with Lois now, and have been very happy with the progress our child has made toward preparing for the math SAT. In fact, she recently took a college placement exam and came home thinking the math portion of that test was easy! This is from someone who has struggled with math for a long time. I attribute that progress directly to working with Lois. You can't go wrong tutoring with her!
Lois is patient, knowledgeable, and kind. She dove straight in with her work, but really listened to my junior to find out her struggles with Algebra 2. Great over all experience and we will continue with Lois M.
In our second session, my daughter brought her test review for the next day. She was worried that she would be clueless on the test. However, Lois showed her techniques and visual aids to help her understand better. She is excited now and is eager to learn more with the help of Lois. Having a 16 year old like the tutor - Awesome!
Lois is an excellent math tutor. She clearly explains math problems and is very patient. She has been flexible with our schedule.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
