I would love the opportunity to pass down my language skills to eager learners!
I'm happy to teach Spanish, Modern Standard Arabic (Fusha), as well as dialect Arabic (mostly broad Levantine or Jordanian and some Egyptian) to beginner and intermediate students.
I am a recent graduate from the University of Chicago's MA program in Middle Eastern Studies. I've been studying Arabic on and off for five years. I spent four months in the United Arab Emirates in 2012 and three months in Jordan in 2014. I have learned from multiple esteemed professors, from conversations with very close Egyptian friends, from a Jordanian host mother, and from television and music. Depending on what a student is looking for, I'm happy to pass down all that I've learned from this wide array of experience. Reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
My undergraduate degree is in Spanish Language and Literature. In 2013, I spent several months tutoring various high school students in their beginner through intermediate level Spanish classes. In the summer of 2010, I had the pleasure of working in the Canary Islands of Spain as a live-in English tutor for a beautiful family with a young boy. I have lots of materials to teach a wide age range, from books to board games and music. I also conducted a Mommy & Me Spanish session for mothers and their toddlers.
Because I have taught such diverse students, the tutoring style can be adjusted to meet the student's needs.
Please feel free to message me with questions. I look forward to hearing from you! I would love the opportunity to pass down my language skills to eager learners!

Excellent. Would highly recommend for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers. Highly knowledgeable tutor with customized lessons. Thank you Lauren.
Answered all my issues. willing to work as to meet current needs. suggested learning materials. Accommodated lesson mode and timing
I just met with Lauren once and she was knowledgeable about different types of Arabic accents and was able to give good explanations.
Lauren is always willing to free up her schedule to do an extra night or spend a little extra time with my son. She always makes sure he is either done with his Spanish homework or ready for an upcoming test before she concludes a session. Both her hard work and her success are easily measured by the two letter grades my son's Spanish grade improved in just three short weeks! We can't thank you enough Lauren.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received my undergraduate degree in Arabic studies from Binghamton University in 2011. From there, I spent four months in Dubai studying abroad and gaining firsthand familiarity with Arabic. Most recently, I attended the University of Chicago where I received my MA in Middle Eastern Studies, studied Arabic heavily, and received a full scholarship for 3 months of Arabic language study in Jordan just last year.
I have tutored students in English, Spanish, and Arabic. Because Arabic offers such varied registers in the language (dialect, modern standard, Quranic), I vary my approach depending on the goals of the individual learner. Conversation, grammar intensiveness, reading and writing, and comprehension may all be addressed through various grammar books and drills, many audio sources, many levels of articles and books for reading, movies, music, and in-person conversation.
I graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor's in Spanish Language and Literature. I can tutor beginners of any age through a college intermediate level, and provide practice for fellow advanced students as well.
I spent the summer of 2010 in the Canary Islands of Spain living with a Spanish family and tutoring their child.
Because I have been studying Spanish since the age of 12, I have a huge array of materials. In addition to a large collection of music and movies, I have learned a great deal from the following sources, and would therefore most likely use them as a resource when tutoring.
Sources for grammar and language acquisition:
Practice Makes Perfect: Spanish Verb Tenses
Manual de gramática (Iguina/Dozier)
Uso de la gramática española (intermedio y avanzado)
Sources for language use and literature:
